CHRISTOPHE de FIERLANT

Vénus Safari – Eric Ceccarini et Christophe de Fierlant – Livre d’artiste consacré aux femmes, Vénus Safari est un recueil de poèmes de Christophe de Fierlant illustrés par les photographies de la série « The Painters Project » de Eric Ceccarini. La collaboration entre ces deux artistes belges coule de source tellement leur sensibilité et leur inspiration sont proches. L’ouvrage se distingue par son façonnage particulier : une reliure souple de 112 pages au format à la française, dos carré cousu fil multicolore, couture apparente, imprimé en offset HR-UV, trame fine, en quadrichromie sur papier Old Mill Gesso 120 g/m². Le bloc est recouvert d’une jaquette à rabats imprimée sur le même Old Mill Gesso au grammage de 150 g/m². Une bande toilée originale peinte par Christophe de Fierlant est sertie sur le dos de la jaquette et marquée à chaud bleu Louxor 391. Un tirage de tête est également disponible en fourreau avec poème et un tirage d’art en supplément.

Christophe de Fierlant, here is a contemporary Belgian artist who certainly doesn’t lack in artistic resources. Long ago, he was my student when I taught modern art at the Institut Supérieur d’Archéologie et d’Histoire de l’Art in Brussels. Since then, Christophe de Fierlant has immersed himself deeply in contemporary art. However, he has made his choices: to captivate the viewer’s eye through a kaleidoscope of forms, lights, and colorful contrasts, often incorporating texts of his own creation. Moreover, a poet at heart, the artist has a unique talent for revealing all the connections and oppositions between polychromy and graphic signs. Thus, from his initially figurative and almost totemic beginnings, he has juxtaposed forms and color contrasts. His early works owe a debt to artists like Dubuffet and a certain raw art movement. Moving beyond figuration, Christophe de Fierlant finds himself intoxicated by color, now liberated from all representation. He then creates daring gestural abstractions, reminiscent of the great masters of abstract expressionism such as the Frenchman Georges Mathieu or the Belgian Englebert Van Anderlecht. Always attuned to innovative movements, Christophe de Fierlant pursues what seems to obsess him: the combination of form and color, often with verbal inscriptions stemming from his poetic inspiration. His artistic development culminated in his current masterpiece, a sort of “abstract Guernica” titled “Where is the Battle?”, a canvas over twelve meters wide and three meters tall, sweeping polychrome forms through a rhythmically controlled gesture, a veritable volcanic and almost ejaculatory magma, currently housed at the Ferme de Mont Saint Jean in Waterloo. Such a painter should be recognized among our finest contemporary Belgian artists! This is clearly demonstrated in the insightful commentary provided by his biographer in the present work.
